For more than 25 years, Virginia Community Development Corporation has intentionally pursued relationships with community-based and community-focused organizations to plan and develop real estate projects that truly meet local needs.
- You want your vision to start strong and stay strong. Whether it’s your first time working with VCDC or your fifth, you have a partner for the long run. In our 25-year history, 44% of our partners have teamed up with us more than once, and eight developments have re-syndicated (that is, after completing the compliance period, those properties applied for and received a new allocation of tax credits).
- You want help early in your project planning. Real estate development, especially affordable housing development, is complex. Projects that target mixed incomes or special needs only add to this complexity. In addition, developing facilities that incorporate community services uses or renovating vacant or abandoned buildings is not without difficulty. VCDC mitigates these complexities by working with partners sometimes years in advance of project construction to ensure thoughtful and comprehensive planning throughout the lifetime of the project.
- You are committed to finding solutions for real needs. Mission-driven developers pursue projects that address a community’s needs. And often, those projects require more time, effort, and expense. VCDC is also a mission-driven organization. Our history reflects our commitment to help other mission-oriented organizations meet the needs of the communities and people we serve.
“We appreciate the staff ‘s ability to make decisions based not only on their return on investment but also on community benefit and community impact– out-of-town syndicators don’t generally grasp what a project can mean for the community; this becomes a competitive advantage for VCDC.”
